When I finally uncovered the hidden piles of CDs in my underground storage facility, I was faced with the challenge of organizing a place for them.
Once again, I have to give respect to Readymade Magazine for generating some ideas.
Everyone has a few crappy old speakers that they don't know what to do with. If you are really lucky, you have some really large ones made of nice wood. Otherwise, you can do Goodwill the favor of clearing off some of their floor space.
The only supplies I needed coincidentally all start with the letter "S":
Taking the speakers apart was the most exciting part, while sawing and sanding came in a close second. Each speaker box was carefully gutted with the screwdriver and a saw. Next, the insides of the speaker were sanded, paying particular attention to the edges where the inside panels were attached.
After getting them primed, I acquired a can of black (satin) spray paint to match the outside casing of the speakers. As an added bonus, I was carded while purchasing the spray paint. I suppose that is because I look like I am a 16-year-old paint-huffer.
A couple of coats later, the boxes were spread out in the basement to air out. Spray paint dries so quickly that they were ready within a few days.
I considered attaching the boxes together, but preferred the versatility of a stacked style. Now each of those previously forgotten CDs has a home. I just have to figure out what I did with that old MC Hammer album.
