We saw an idea for an art display wall published in the Fall 2003 issue of Readymade Magazine.
We considered building it when we were living in Florida, but our place was not really conducive to a large wooden structure. Unfortunately, it just would not fit properly.
When we moved into our new abode, we had plenty of wide open wallspace. The perfect chance to see what sort of architectural skills we could squeeze out.
I found suitable materials at Lowe's home improvement warehouse. They consisted of:
After a bit of measuring, cutting and sanding down in the basement workshop, I brought all the pieces up for assembly. Once the main posts fit flush against the wall, everything else just fell into place. Using the sample diagram as a design guide, I screwed the lattice strips to the 4 posts.
Once it was up against the wall, the hard part began. Finding the right spot for each piece of art takes an extra set of feng shui skills. Fortunately for me, I had my resident expert (Bridget) help with placement.
Now our home is an ever-changing art gallery, with a little homemade style.
