Chinese for Dinner

Menu with candle

Way back in 2005, I started a blog to document my experiences as I joined my Dad (and whoever else) for dinner at Moy Moy’s. I moved away a few months after that and the blog took a dive. I loved the idea of it — still do. Here was the blog profile:

My dad has eaten at Moy Moy’s nearly every Saturday for the past 5 years. This dinner event has become a family tradition, where we try to include other family members and friends whenever possible. In this blog, I aim to document the observations and discussions at dinner.

Fast forward to present…

We make it back to Moy’s a few times a year, while my Dad remains a loyal weekly customer. It must be about 8 or 9 years now. The dynamics are a bit different since there are kids involved. We were there recently with my family, plus Allyson (sis-in-law) and a few friends that were visiting from Florida.

We arrived and Shea was excited on many fronts: to be out of the car after a long trip to Cincinnati, to be with his Grandparents, to be at Moy Moy’s! He could not contain himself and proceeded to run laps around our table. Fortunately, there was no-one else in the restaurant. He made frequent stops at the candy machines to dream about which one he could eat after dinner.  Mrs. Moy always gives Shea a few quarters to buy the sun-faded Skittles and Mike ‘n Ikes.

Shea also gets prime service almost immediately after we arrive because Mrs. Moy knows how hard it is for kids to wait.  She always brings him a bowl of rice and some delicious tofu veggie soup.  It’s really great to have a chinese-for-dinner experience through my son’s eyes.  He really takes it all in.

Just writing about this has me craving a spicy dish of the Szechuan.

This meal’s fortune: You tend to draw out the goodness in people.
